Go to Florence for Michelangelo and da Vinci…stay for the street art and the wine windows!
Hi, I'm Kim. More about me, you ask? Let’s see…you probably know by now that I am graphic designer. I’m known for my thoughtful approach, creating accessible, usable designs, and for my signature “high-hair” bun, which has a personality all its own.
I was born an East Coast gal, but recently moved west for the pine trees and beauty of the PNW. My heart is constantly divided between hiking or snowboarding in the mountains and scuba diving along a reef somewhere. I’m firmly on team ‘cat’ in the cat vs. dog debate. And I have amazing taste in music (Frankie Valli and Jimmy Buffett on repeat? Yes, please).
I came across “design” almost by accident. My adult goals were always to travel the world doing something meaningful and good along the way. But what? I always felt I was too analytical to do something creative. And too creative to do something analytical.
I held internships at government agencies, studied abroad in France and Senegal, taught French in Ghana, coordinated international health research studies, and managed a marine research base in the Seychelles. Along the way I noticed that my passion for design remained a constant, connecting all these experiences. I’d jump at any opportunity to create office materials, classroom activities, websites, and more. I decided to go back to school for graphic and web design…and thus launched my career path.
Design’s creative problem-solving allows me to be both analytical and creative. (And, as a bonus, I can embrace my cheesy, eye-roll-inducing sense of humor to create characters that make people smile).
I believe that design can effect change. And I have a built a career finding effective and creative design-solutions for organizations dedicated to helping others. I thrive when I’m able to think deeply about a problem, understand what motivates people, listen to what they need, and ultimately deliver great experiences. At the end of the day, I feel design should move us toward a more inclusive, accessible world; it should bring delight; and we should always create design with character.
